Web Design
My career as a web designer started out when I learned basic HTML and CSS to customise my MySpace page. I was young and impressionable at the time and didn’t know much – I taught myself by bastardising the code that other people had written. Even <a>, <p> and <img> tags caused me trouble, but the more I learned, the more confident I grew.
The next step was to launch my own website, a simple affair on a long-forgotten free host using a .TK domain. I think I came across the host through Bored.com – I wonder how I felt at the time! Although I liked having the freedom to code my own pages and to put together a simple site to express myself, I hated having multiple pop-ups and the urge for my own domain was born.
I’ve always had my site hosted by Hostony.com, mainly because of their cheap monthly fee with everything that I need including a domain name, high bandwidth limits and a huge amount of storage space. Early websites were based around a PHPBB forum, and I became an active member of PHPBBHacks.com, creating my own forum modification scripts and working as a freelancer.
I started out with DaneCobain.com, but also briefly owned DaneCobainMusic.com and DaneCobain.net, both of which are now defunct. I also briefly managed PhotoShopPaul.com, a website dedicated to the graphic manipulation of images of one of my college friends. Eventually, after a long period of inactivity, DaneCobain.com was resurrected in a different format – the format that you’re now looking at.
I also use web design at work, coding simple HTML pages to be embedded in to Facebook tabs. Here are a couple of examples:
- BrainBox Games Wummy! tab
- The Land of Dragor book leave tab
- Colour B4 reviews tab
- Sociabull blog tab
